Get Me Out of Here: The 2019
series averaged 10.59 million viewers per episode, this dropped from the
previous year as there was 12.14 million average viewers. Approximately 75% of
these viewers were aged 16-34.
Love
Island: The 2020 winter Love Island show recorded a total of 4.2
million viewers which records at a 10% increase from the 2019 series.
Approximately 43% of viewers are aged from 18-29 and 25% are aged 30-39.
Strictly
Come Dancing: Strictly (aired in
2019) averaged 7.7 million viewers per
episode, compared with an average of 8.9 million the previous year
(2018). The majority of the audience are middle-aged females.
X-Factor: In 2018 the
X-factor averaged 5.7 million viewers per episode. However, in 2019 there was a
significant drop to 4.8 average viewers per episode. Approximately 60% of the
audience are aged from 16-34.
Keeping Up
With the Kardashians: The show had been averaging around 851,000 viewers per
episode. This is down from previous season of 1.3 million. The series has saw a
steady decline of viewership throughout the seasons. Most of the audience are
females aged 16-34.
Hell’s
Kitchen: The 12th season of hells kitchen averaged 4.83
million total viewers throughout the series. However, the 13th
series dropped to 4.27 million viewers on its debut episode of the season and
then went on to average only 3.77 million viewers for the rest of the season. Roughly
75% of viewers are aged 18-49.
In conclusion reality television shows, which
have been around for a long period of time seem to be decreasing in their
views. For example, the X-factor, Strictly Come Dancing and I’m a Celebrity Get
Me Out of Here have all decreased in viewership. However relatively new series
such as Love Island have an increasing viewership. This could also be partly
due to the genre of the shows and which genres are more interesting in modern
day television.
